Creative Writing Courses 2026 - for ages 8+

About my Creative Writing Courses

I offer creative writing classes to children and teenagers because I want to teach them how to write brilliant stories!

Children LOVE to create characters and new worlds. Gifted children as well as children with dyslexia and other learning differences excel in my classes because the focus is on fun and they can write about whatever they want: unicorns, bombs, animals, war, friendship, loss or anything at all. Most importantly the children are given the opportunity to express themselves.

It gives me the greatest of pleasure to encourage children, especially anxious ones, to escape into their own imagination. I want them to experience the thrill of creating their own stories, and to know that this tool is available to them. Discovering they can create stories, gives children an immense boost in confidence and appreciation for themselves.

My aim is:

  • to encourage children to believe in themselves and know that they can write fantastic stories too.
  • to help children find this precious place inside themselves.

Each week I present a writing topic for the day

e.g. plot, dialogue, endings, character creation etc. After plenty of examples and time for questions, students are given a writing exercise. These are done individually or in groups. At the end of the writing sessions, I invite students to read their work aloud. Nobody has to read their work aloud. It is entirely optional.

Autumn Term 2026

The 10 week Autumn Term begins Monday 21st September and runs until the end of November / early December.

  • There are no classes during Halloween midterm break
  • Children’s Courses are suitable for 8+ year olds (attending primary school).
  • Teenage Course is suitable for 13+ year olds (attending secondary school).

Timetable for Online Classes (Zoom):

Children          Mondays           5 - 6pm
Teenagers       Wednesdays     5 - 6p.m.

Timetable for In-Venue Classes (Loughshinny Community Centre)

Children:          Tuesdays      4.30 - 5.30pm
Teenagers:       Thursdays     5 - 6p.m.

Course Fees:

The ten week term can be paid in two instalments of €85.

  • The first instalment is due before the course begins (to secure the place).
  • The second instalment is due by Friday 23rd October
  • For those who pay for the full ten weeks in advance the price is €155. (€15 discount)

Weekly classes can book up quickly, and spaces are limited. If a class is full and you would like to be put on a waiting list for the following term, you can add yourself to the list on the booking page here.

Refund Policy

Should a participant need to cancel 30 days or more prior to a course or event, they will receive a refund minus the booking fee of €25

Cancellation or transfer requests made 29 days or less prior to a course or event will not receive a refund.

Transfers to alternative courses cannot be guaranteed 29 days or less prior to the original course or event booked.

Minimum Numbers

In the unlikely event that there are not enough participants to run the course, it will be cancelled.

A full refund of fees will be issued, or you will be offered a space in an alternative course of your choosing (subject to availability).
